NEXT SHOW:
Read About What We Do!
Gov. Jan Brewer, R., Arizona, was
the first "Serenissima!"
The P.I. C. explores many traditions of Berlin Cabaret to express how we feel about the times we live in.
None has been more successful than our importing of Max Reinhardt's creation, "Serenissimus." An unpopular leader, or other representative of the power structure, crashes the cabaret and gets into the act.
Some Serenissimi have been "W," Karl Rove, Judge Roy Moore, Governor Jan Brewer and in 2016, the Zombie remains of the Republican Party!
ANSAGER or CONFERENCIER or
"W" is crowned at the Shock-N-Awgural Ball, 2005
"Judge Roy Moore" and his Rolling Ten Commandments, 2006
Ebb/Kander CABARET's ambiguous Ansager
or Conférencier (The Emcee) fits our style perfectly.
He ad libs with the audience, introduces the acts
and changes costumes a dozen times! to add text.
The P.I.C. continues to present serious poetry, often that which was censored by repressive regimes. In 2007, it was Lorca. In 2009, we read poems of the Zimbabwean fight for independence. In 2011, we read Poems from Death Row, Alabama.
Girl Kabarett was the Berlin name for the kind of entertainment that brought in the public with half-dressed, beautiful women. We don't skip that either, but our dancers take it off for democracy!
